How to Find a Stunning Christmas Tree Decoration Idea

Model Railroad Guide And Print Out Buildings

Everyone is trying to find a great Christmas tree decoration idea! Homespun Christmas trees are moving to the side, it seems, for intricate themed trees with tree limbs full of carefully planned out decorations. Here are some great Christmas tree decoration ideas for your next holiday!
Decorate With AngelsA popular Christmas tree decoration idea is to decorate the tree with a realm of angels. The main theme of the angel tree is cherubs... kind of like that small angel at Valentine's Day! You will decorate the angel tree with only angels. You can choose angels of any shape, size, or texture. What pulls the angel tree together is that everything on your tree is an angel. You may want to add some strands of white sparkling lights for an added touch of "the ethereal heavens." Be sure to get angels of many assorted types. You might include homemade angels or angels that your kids made at school or church, as well.A Color-Themed TreeAnother spectacular Christmas tree decoration idea is to create your tree around an array of coordinating colors. For instance, your Christmas tree decoration theme might be to decorate your tree in USA patriotism, in red, white, and blue colors. If this is your theme, you will purchase or MAKE decorations, Christmas tree balls, lights, and garland that are all red, white, and blue. Other popular color theme ideas are a gold tree, blue tree, white tree, and even pink. Today you can even buy artificial trees that are in any chosen color that will blend into your idea. And the tree will blend into YOUR home, as a very special rendition of our Christmas holidays.Other Themed IdeasIf your Christmas tree decoration idea does not involve angels or a certain color, there are many other kinds of the Christmas tree decoration idea out there. You may wish to decorate your tree to represent your career. If you are a teacher, you might want Christmas tree decorations that are apples, chalkboards, and other teaching-related items. If you are a "gardener extraordinaire," you can hang tiny flowers and fruits and vegetables on the tree and decorate it with real garden tools!
The success to "building" a truly beautiful Christmas tree decoration idea is to think outside the traditional Christmas decoration boxes. For instance, if you want to decorate a tree to honor the fisherman in your life, you can decorate it with real pieces of tackle. Carefully choose colorful tackle and hang it from the tree with safe ornament hangers, not fishing hooks. You can also purchase decorations that depict tiny fishermen to add to the overall look.In this same vein, if there is an artist in your family, your unique tree could sport actual art tools such as paint brushes, tiny jars of ink (which will collect and throw the lights!), decorative craft items such as colored hemp twine or colored yarns, and small toys found in craft stores... tiny palettes, artist easels, and small figurines that you will decorate and "clothe" to look like art gallery participants or famous artists! The Christmas tree decoration idea list is truly endless. Use your imagination, and create a Christmas tree that you will be proud of! The sky is the limit when it comes to decorating the best Christmas tree ever! It will become a favorite family tradition, with the story telling of "how the tree came to be" as a central part of putting together your holiday.

Travel Tips for Christmas

Online Violin & Fiddle Lessons

Christmastime often means traveling to grandma's or a family party. You can make these trips less stressful when you have kids along by following some of these tips.Traveling with children often times requires that you become an expert storyteller, comedian, actor, or magician in order to keep peace and make the time pass quicker. Here are some age appropriate tips for you to use on your next holiday trip.Babies enjoy looking at bright objects that have interesting shapes, or are pop-up tops, and also mirrors and rattles are favorite amusers too.Toddlers will be kept busy with hand puppets, shape sorters of all kinds, board books, musical toys (that won't irritate you), and plastic containers that kid can easily open themselves and close. Keep play objects in them that are not too small (choking). A coloring book and chubby crayons are great entertainment.Preschoolers love to unwrap boxes that contain surprises for them to play with like magnetic numbers and letters on a metal tray, picture books, treats to eat, or mirrors and stuffed animals.Younger school-aged kids love to work with activity books that have stickers in them, felt boards, modeling clay, action figures or dolls and stuffed animals.Older kids can use travel-size board games or hand-held electronic games, magazines or books, or car games like finding certain state license plates or counting colored cars, or store signs. Kids have great imaginations and can sometimes amuse themselves on long car rides by playing these car games like "I-Spy" - spotting something along the landscape that is a certain color or shape.
It is a good idea to take along music CDs or books on tape for hours of entertainment value. Some popular series are: Silly Sing Alongs, Toddler Tunes, music by Joe Scruggs, Raffi or hits that you remember from The Beatles, or Broadway or Hitsville USA: The Motown Singles or a popular kids group: Sharon, Louis and Bram. Taking a variety of music will help to pass the time not only for the kids but for the adults as well. Audio books can be not only entertaining but learning experience as well especially if you are traveling far and can find an audio book about your destination.
Many of the vehicles now have built-in VCRs or DVD players for hours of movie entertainment.
Car trips can bring your family closer together by creating this unique time of sharing and doing stuff together. You can share jokes, tell stories, and talk about what is happening in your lives.

Travel At Christmas

Feast Your Way Fit

Because Christmas is a time to be with family, loved ones and friends, it
is one of the busiest times of the year to travel. People locally, to different
regions and to international destinations to share Christmas dinners, exchange
gifts and recall fond memories they have of the season. There's also travel for
entertainment reasons that's done by tourists within the country or from abroad.
And even on Christmas Day, the highways are busy with vehicles as relatives and
friends travel between towns and states to spend the day together.
The massive and rapid shift away from an agrarian society to one of
commerce with the development of cities and suburbs caused family members to
move farther and farther away from each other, therefore making it necessary to
travel by land, air or rail to be together for holidays such as Christmas and
other special occasions. And with some countries being economic powerhouses in
the world, movement of peoples got even farther as they migrated to other
countries to take advantage of better opportunities to improve their lives.
Consequently, air travel has expanded in modern times to take people to
international destinations.
But travel during Christmas and the holidays is not limited to visiting
relatives and friends. Many people travel for entertainment, including families
who are interested in seeing interesting sights at Christmas and enjoying world-
renowned entertainment that are in faraway places from where they live. Travel
to a destination that is far away, within or outside a country, may only be done
once by a family and that in itself creates a special memory.
Within the United States, it is popular for families and groups of friends
to visit New York City to see the general sights of the city and to shop at
Christmas. Some of these sights are known throughout the country and are
celebrated each Christmas. The annual lighting of the Rockefeller Center
Christmas Tree is an example.
The lighting of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, which is located
west of Fifth Avenue from 47th Street to 51st Street in New York City, has been
an tradition since the time of the Depression. The first tree was placed at the
site in 1931 but it wasn't decorated with any Christmas ornaments. In recent
years, more than 25,000 Christmas lights and other ornaments have been placed on
the tree.
Also in New York City, it is very popular for tourists to travel at
Christmas to see the spectacular Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall with
the signature high-kicking Rockettes. The show is a favorite of both adults and
children as it is very festive, lively and filled with the spirit of Christmas.
Tourists also travel during Christmas to international destinations for
entertainment. Because the Nutcracker Ballet originated in Russia and that
country has worldwide acclaim for some of the most technical and artistic ballet
performers, it is a popular destination at Christmas. The legendary Tchaikovsky
composed the music for the Nutcracker Ballet, which was first performed in
Russia's Mariinsky Theatre that is home to the acclaimed Kirov Ballet.  The
story is about a little girl's dream on Christmas Eve about a beloved Nutcracker
toy she received as a present.
Travel to international destinations is also popular at Christmas time to
escape the cold of a 'White Christmas.' For those who do not like the cold but
like to be out and about at Christmas, the alternative is to go somewhere with a
more tropical climate. Travel to destinations in the Caribbean, where Christmas
is robustly celebrated, is popular during the Christmas season.
One of the intriguing places to travel during the Christmas season is to a
place where Santa can be observed. There is such a place in Finland at a village
where Santa Claus has his workshop. Travel to see and possibly talk to Santa
Claus is a delightful adventure for children. But such a trip has to be made
before Christmas Eve when Santa, his elves and reindeers embark on a trip
themselves to every home in the world.

Time for Christmas plans

Gluten Free Christmas Cookbook

Usually all Christmas plans are made up ahead, but if several weeks before the holiday you still don’t know where to go on your so desperately expected vacations, may be this article can help you to define your preferences. The fist thing you should remember is that usually by the beginning of December all the best places are already booked. So, prepare to spend more money, time and nerves, than, for example, in October. The fist thing to decide is the type of vacation you would like to have. At first – would you prefer winter of summer? Some can’t imagine their Christmas without snow; others deserve to escape from the frost. If you decide to warm up in the end of December, you are most likely to choose one of the sea resorts somewhere near equator. The most popular are Thailand, Maldives, Indonesia, India or Dominican Republic. All these countries have their own advantages, but if you like just to lay on the sun than choose Maldives. In other places there is so much to see, that your tan could be rather pale. You can also choose on the small islands in Polynesia – sun, ocean and palms – if that’s all you need from your holidays than it would be a perfect choice.
Those, who prefer the active way of life, can go in for diving or windsurfing. All these resorts offer the outstanding opportunities for these sports. If you have chosen not to be deprived of snow and winter then you still have a lot of possibilities and variants. You may go to a country with a lot of historical attractions and devote your time to excursions, shopping (Christmas sales are very attractive) and meet New Year on the main square surrounded by crowds of celebrating people from all over the world. Christmas tree as a symbol is as must. Cities ideal for this kind of holiday are Paris, New York, Prague. Frankly speaking, any big city in the Northern hemisphere can be suitable. You will return full of souvenirs and new impressions. If you like sport, particularly alpine skiing than the best choice is, without any doubt, Alps. There you can find comfort and nature, interesting entertainment programs and remoteness from the cities’ noise.  French, Swiss or Austrian Alps - all perfectly match. If you live in the United States and don’t like to fly across the ocean, you can spend you vacations on one of the Colorado mountain resorts. We have examined a lot of variants, but all of them need at least a week. What to do if you have just few days but still want to change your surroundings? In that case you can choose not so distant country or even travel within your country’s borders. Just choose the place where you have never been and your trip will full your with new emotions. Some people always spend their holidays in the same place. May be this year it’s time to change situation? If you don’t feel like it, just go where you are used to and feel comfortable and relaxed. No matter where you will be on vacations, the most important is the mood, the atmosphere and the people who are with you. If all these components are fine, your holiday will be a success!

Some True Blue Aussie Christmas Traditions

Top Christmas Product - Money Origami Christmas Videos

Christmas would have to be my favorite time of the year.I remember my white Christmases in Europe as a little girl. There was the smell of cinnamon, nutmeg and gingerbread biscuits, and my parents drinking eggnog as we decorated our tree.
Snow glistened outside and groups of children with their lanterns alight could be heard singing Christmas Carols as they moved from house to house in exchange for chocolates and sweets that residents would throw out their window.  That’s when the mad scramble began trying to look for sweets in several feet of snow.
I sometimes yearn for those magical, mystical years and reminisce especially when I listen to Bing Crosby’s “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”.Our way of compensating for the lack of cold weather in December is by having Christmas in July celebrations with all the trimmings including weather close to that of the northern hemisphere (well almost – anything north of the Tropic of Capricorn hasn’t been included, sorry). In Australia many of us still write cards with snow and ice scenes, people ice-skating on frozen lakes and pictures of cute reindeers.  Not only would Santa melt from the heat wearing his red winter woolies, his reindeer would die of heat exhaustion working in such sweltering heat!No reindeers and sleighs for us – we have ‘six white boomers’ (boomers: large kangaroos) thanks to a song by Rolf Harris from the ‘60’s.  I’ve seen our Santa pulling a surfboard wearing sunscreen, board shorts and hat, zipping through the southern skies.  Yes – he’s our man!
A far cry from the drunk Santa I remember riding in the back of a ute (ute: utility vehicle) in the country many years ago.  Last seen swigging on a long neck (long neck: tall bottle of beer) trying to articulate “ho ho ho and a Merry Christmas to all” as the ute slowly drove down each street in my neighborhood.Carols by Candlelight are a tradition ‘down under’ during the weeks leading up to Christmas at many venues around towns and cities of Australia.Christmas lunch here in this great southern land is a different experience.  As Christmas Day closes in the temperature continues to rise as does the humidity here in Brisbane.  You know Christmas is here when you start hearing the continuous shrill sounds of cicadas (large winged insect) on hot, cloudless days.
I know many still insist on cooking the turkey, other roasts as well as roast vegetables and gravy in the stifling heat (I did until recently), as well as fruitcake and custard.  Not everyone has air conditioning here so a cool breeze is often top of the wish list.

So what is a traditional Christmas lunch down this way?1. Prawns (prawn: shrimp) for the barbecue – on ice and with lemon wedges;
2. Fresh Fish from the market – arrive very early (if you’ve never had this experience before you’ll know what I mean when you do);
3. Tossed green Salad, bowl of beetroot with onion, and some asparagus;
4. Snags (snags: sausages), lamb chops – lamb cutlets if you can afford it;
5. For ‘afters’ (afters: after lunch) Beach towel, togs, thongs, sunscreen, cricket bat and ball (thongs: cheap rubber open sandals, togs: bathing costume);
6. An esky full of beers (esky: receptacle to place all alcoholic drinks – on occasion you may get lucky and find room for other items but don’t get too excited);
7. A few bottles of drink coolers for the girls;
8. Wine for the more refined;
9. More beers for the esky; and
10. A laid back attitude.
With lunch done, we look forward to our the great tradition of spending Boxing Day watching the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, The Boxing Day Test cricket at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), or by spending the day lazing at home or spending it down the beach.
Having been outside once today, I’m very aware of how hot and humid it is and apparently it’s not going to get cooler any time soon.  So as I sit here looking at the cloudless sky and writing this article, I am indeed “Dreaming of a white Christmas, if only in my dreams!”
Merry Christmas and safe holidays everyone from Brisbane Australia.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (DVD) Review

Hands down, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is the best Christmas-themed comedy ever filmed. Personally, I make it habit to watch this movie about ten million times between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Even after seeing the film so many times that I can recite it word-for-word, Christmas Vacation remains as hilarious and entertaining as the previous holiday season. More than just a seasonal film, it’s one of those rare comedies that it near perfect from beginning to end.
Christmas Vacation follows the ongoing exploits of Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and the Griswold family, but this particular rendition of the classic Vacation movies is arguably the best. As in the previous films, Clark’s goal is to create the perfect vacation for his family. Only this time, instead of hitting the road for Wally World or flying to Europe, the Griswolds stay at home in suburban Chicago.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (mere months away from signing on for the role of Elaine on Seinfeld) makes several appearances as Clark’s annoying, yuppie neighbor Margot, a character accompanied by her equally elitist yuppie partner, Todd (Nicholas Guest). Randy Quaid makes a return appearance as Cousin Eddie, playing the same role from the original Vacation film. As Clark’s unsophisticated and backward relative, Eddie is a man whose “heart is bigger than his brain”. Beverly D’Angelo also returns in her previous role as Clark’s wife, Ellen.
When Clark vows to create “the most fun-filled old-fashioned family Christmas ever,” things naturally go awry. With the Griswold family and their in-laws living under one roof, the relatives constantly get on each others’ nerves. Clark sets out to decorate the house for Christmas, and his quest culminates in a 25,000 light extravaganza that covers every square inch of the house. In the process, he nearly breaks his neck several times and knocks out Todd and Margot’s window with a flying lance of roof gutter ice.
The laughs multiply several times over when Cousin Eddie arrives uninvited and parks his RV in the Griswold driveway. In tow are his wife Catherine, their two kids Ruby Sue and Rocky, and their lovely dog “Snots”. The crescendo of disaster steadily increases as Christmas Day approaches with Clark’s agony compounded the absence of his annual Christmas bonus. Clark’s big Christmas surprise for the family is that he’s putting in a pool, but in order to start work as soon as the ground thawed out, he had to put down a hefty deposit which his check won’t cover without the Christmas bonus. After a Christmas Eve in which the turkey explodes, Aunt Bethany’s cat electrocutes itself, Uncle Lewis burns down the tree, and a squirrel gets loose in the house, a late night knock on the door provides Clark with hope. A deliveryman hands him an envelope which fell between the seats, the fabled Christmas bonus. But when the bonus isn’t quite what Clark expected, Cousin Eddie surprises Clark with an unexpected last minute gift…
Originally released in 1989, Christmas Vacation has surprisingly little content that makes it seem “dated”. As such, it’s certain to be a holiday viewing tradition for generations to come. With some of the best one-liners in all of comedy, you’ll find yourself reciting its dialogue for many Christmases to come. But what makes Christmas Vacation such an enduring film is that everyone who watches it can relate to the events within. Almost everyone has a strange relative like Eddie or a pair of snotty elitist neighbors, and of course, who hasn’t had a squirrel ransack their house on Christmas Eve? Overall, this movie is a barrel of laughs. If you don’t like it, you probably aren’t breathing…

Missing Christmas Flight Mystery For Malta

Gtfyw

A flight from London to Malta on December 26 has set alarm bells ringing on the holiday island of Malta. The flight operator, well known and popular airline Ryanair, claims no flight was scheduled, while one newspaper said they had a photograph showing a departure board with 'cancelled' next to the flight number. The Malta tourist industry pushed for low cost airlines to be allowed to operate to the island in the hope of arresting the recent decline in visitor numbers, and agreement was reached with Ryanair, with the inaugural flight from Luton in November. With a projected 80,000 to 100,000 extra tourists a year, the arrival of new flights to Malta has been warmly welcomed and seen by many as the saviour of the holidays and hotel industry, with a knock on effect for the property for sale industry to overseas buyers. The exisiting carriers, including the national airline Air Malta, have responded with offers of their own, and the price of flying to Malta has come down significantly in the last few months. But what looks like a cancelled flight due to a lack of passengers has sounded alarm bells on the holiday island.'The Malta hotels and holiday industry was looking forward to the year ahead with a sense of optimism', comment local travel guide http://www.yourmalta.com, 'The extra tourists being brought in by Ryanair is a major boost for the island's economy. But if a flight has been cancelled just weeks after their service started we just have to hope that it's not a sign for the future, and projected arrival numbers haven't been wildly over estimated. Hopefully there wasn't a flight scheduled at all rather than being cancelled.'Holiday Season'There is a possibility', continue YourMalta, 'That the introduction of the low cost airlines flying to Malta will merely delay the long term decline of the island's tourist industry.
Unless money is spent on the infrastructure and improving the environment for the tourists generally there is a danger that a lot of visitors will be one-off. If there's a lesson to be learned in Malta that the government and her agencies have failed to grasp it is that sustainable tourism is built on repeat visitors. At the moment a lot of visitors from the UK see Malta as a one-off trip'.As well as Ryanair, it was hoped that easyJet would also start services to Malta, but the latest reports are that talks have failed to produce an agreement. But brighter news has come from the island's flag carrier Air Malta. As well as at one stage selling two tickets a minute in a recent promotion the airline is starting a new service from Liverpool in April. The property market will also be keeping a close eye on tourist numbers now that the new flights have been given the green light. If visitor numbers do drop in the medium term it could be good news for locals looking to buy their first property. There has been some discontent on the island about the rising prices of property in Malta, and with less overseas buyers the possibility of prices falling and more islanders being able to get on the property ladder could be welcome news, as today's tourist is often tomorrow's property buyer. But now that low cost airlines are offering flights to Malta, this could help the Malta hotels and holiday market as more people consider three and four day breaks instead of the traditional week or fortnight, boosting the overall number of visitors, especially if Air Malta and the low cost airlines bring the cost of Malta flights to levels seen for the Spanish islands.Malta has traditionally seen the majority of her visitors from the UK, but this could be changing to a more diverse mix in future years.Last year saw a record number of visitors from Italy, and increased enquiries have been received at estate agents across the island from Scandanvia, Holland, France and Belgium, helping to increase the demand for Malta properties.

How To Keep Your Kids Entertained Over The Holidays.

Games For Fun Kids - Mind Power Series

This idea will work well as part of a school Valentine party or children’s holiday party.
1. Make or buy plain cupcakes or cookies for each person who will be attending the holiday party. Buy one or two per person and allow for extras in case of less-than-perfect quality control.
2. You will also need two or three kinds of frosting, a variety of holiday sprinkles, mini M & Ms, tiny chocolate chips, toffee pieces and nuts. Choose the ones you want for the cookies or cupcakes you will be decorating.3. Be sure to bring or provide containers for the toppings and knives, paper towels, waxed paper, and a small paper plate for each child.4. Prepare a holiday cookie or cupcake menu for each child. Each child will check a box or line for kind of frosting and sprinkles desired. There should also be a space for their name. Have each child fill out the menu and collect them.5. Choose a holiday foreperson. This person is in charge of holiday decorating crews, job assignments and quality control. The child chosen should be able to work well with the other children.6. Assign children to groups of four or five. Introduce them to the foreperson and explain that they will be filling the holiday cookie or cupcake menu requests. This will keep everyone busy and having a good time.10. When all the holiday treats are frosted and sprinkled, take each child’s menu and pass out the cookies or cupcakes. How to Plan the Successful Holiday Travel

Why Not Fly Free

Nothing spoils the holidays faster than a miserable trip getting there, so taking the time to plan your trip just may be the very thing that keeps it happy. Here are some tips to planning your trip.
Save money by contacting a travel agent well in advance of your departure date. The lowest-priced fares, hotel rooms and rental car fees can be obtained by securing them far in advance of the holiday season.Pack light to save energy, time and money. You also should check with your particular airline as some will place special restrictions on carry-ons during the holiday season because of the higher demand for space.Save on airline space by shipping your gifts instead of taking them with you. Allow at least two to three weeks for your package to arrive at your destination because both Federal Express and UPS are busy during the holidays.Make sure that before you leave on your holiday trip, your home, plants, and pets are secure and well cared for. Pet sitters will often times care for the plants and home as well, so they are a good investment and will give you peace of mind.
Don't forget to have someone collect the mail and newspapers so that it won't look like no one is home at your house. You should have your lights set on timers so that they come on at different times. Check to be sure that you locked all windows and doors and turned off the oven and stove before leaving. Do NOT leave any message on your answering machine or voicemail that indicates you are leaving for a trip.Avoid peak travel days at the airport like the day before or the day after a holiday. Book your flight two days before a holiday. Try to book a non-stop flight if possible.
If you have an early flight, consider sleeping over at an airport hotel the night before and taking an airport shuttle right from the hotel to the airport the next day.If traveling by car always have the car serviced by a certified mechanic. Make sure they check the fluid levels, brakes, tire pressures, and any other car part that needs regular maintenance. Bring along jumper cables, extra fluids, maps, first aid kit, flashlights, blankets, water, snacks, flares, ice scraper, chains for the tires and also a cell phone.Traveling with kids by car or air means bringing snacks and something to keep them busy like games, toys or music. If they will be sleeping during the trip bring blankets and pillows.
Good planning is essential for a safe and happy holiday trip so take the time to plan.

Holiday Pictures

My Assembly Jobs

While on a cruise, you may want to take pictures as a way to preserve the memories of the wonderful time you had. Pictures of sights, views, friends, and events are the types of pictures the many people take when they are on a cruise, especially those that allow passengers to visit different port cities along the way. Because most people will only take one or two cruises in their lifetime, it is important that they have pictures to show other people and as a way to remember the trip years later.
Unfortunately, after the cruise is over, the pictures sit undeveloped for weeks, months, or even years. While most people have digital cameras, the images from their cruise are never downloaded onto a CD or they are put into a file folder never to be seen again. If you want to create something special for your pictures, creating a scrapbook is one way to preserve your pictures and the memories you have of the cruise. Scrapbooks are very easy to create and can last for many years. Buying a few supplies including water resistant book, photo glue, and decorative accents are all you will need. Developing pictures from your vacation is the next step.  After printing your pictures, you will be ready to add them to the scrapbook. This can be done any way you want it to be. Use your imagination and have a good time reminiscing about your trip. If you don't want to create a scrapbook, but you want to preserve the pictures so friends and family can look at them later, buy an acid proof box and have your pictures developed. Placing them in this box will protect them for many years. There are many types of boxes available with pretty designs to choose from. In addition to pictures, you can add cocktail napkins, show tickets, and any other items you may have kept from your cruise. These are small items that will bring back many memories. Keep these items in your memory box with your pictures so you will have many stories to tell later on. Taking pictures while on vacation may seem a bit daunting at first, but once you begin, you will find yourself taking pictures of everything you see. Even though some of your pictures will not be worth saving because they were out of focus or they did not have enough light, most of them will tell the story of your holiday. If travelling with a group, designate one or two people to take pictures so all the events will be photographed. You can share pictures through email later on and let people choose which pictures to print. Some people do not enjoy taking pictures, so only ask those who want to take them during the trip. Documenting your trip by taking pictures is a great way to remember the trip later on and be able to tell others about it.

Holiday Traveling Tips

Why Not Fly Free

You can't seem to avoid the holiday traveling if you have a large extended family. There are always get-togethers at Grandma's or holiday dinners at Uncle Ed's. Getting to these holiday functions requires smart traveling planning and knowing some good traveling tips can come in handy.
Flying:If you are flying you will need to be prepared for security rules. Time can be wasted if you are not prepared ahead of time for what you can and cannot take onboard the flight. Also, know what is allowed to be carried onboard with you. As you approach boarding sections you will need to take out laptops as you get near the scanner. Getting it out ahead of time will save time and aggravation as others will not want to wait as you fumble around your belongings trying to locate your laptop. It is important to pay attention as you come to the other side of the scanner, so that you pick up your laptop and not someone else's.Holiday traveling with gifts has some special precautions as well when it comes to the security gates. Do not spend the time or money wrapping your gifts in gaily colored wrap because you will have to unwrap them in front of the guards. To avoid hassle, either wait until you arrive at your destination to wrap them, or mail them separately to arrive at your destination. Mailing them separately could also save you money if they would have put you overweight on the baggage (have to pay a fee for that).TimeGive yourself plenty of extra time so that you arrive at the gate before you need to. This way if there are extra security checks you won't be late for your flight. Checking in always takes longer than you expect. A good rule is to be at the airport an hour before domestic flight times and 2 hours before international flight departure time. There is not much you can do about snowstorms and other weather delays but booking early in the day flights will give you time to arrange other options for coping with these delays like booking later flights or making other travel arrangements in order to fix the situation and still arrive at Christmas dinner on time.
Always check the status of your flight in advance of arriving at the airport. You can check the status of your flight on the Airline Website. Your preparation will depend on the age of the child (kids).
First, look at the length of the flight. Long air flights and young kids do not mix well. Especially toddlers have a difficult time sitting still for a long period of time. Make sure that in your preparation you consider taking along favorite toys, blankets, books, snacks. Toddlers and kids under six can be accompanied by an adult and walked up and down the aisle when the seatbelt signs are turned off.
Kids love to look out airplane portholes, which are located by the exits. Explain what they are seeing and where they are. Sometimes flight attendants will pass out little plastic flight wings and spend a few moments talking with kids about the plane.
Planning your trip and keeping the age of the child in mind is key to a successful family holiday trip.

Ever Considered Christmas In Hawaii?

Exercises To Completely Cure Snoring! - Blue Heron Health News

Mele Kalikimaka is the traditional Hawaiian greeting of Merry Christmas.  Native Hawaiians had some difficulty with their pronunciation of the English version and nowadays Mele Kalikimaka is bandied about with delight every December, accompanied by popular Christmas carols and an original blend of Hawaiian style Christmas decorations.  Santa is frequently spotted in Hawaiian gardens lounging about in an outrigger canoe, cocktail in one hand and toy sack in the other.Palm trees are decorated with tinsel and Christmas stars, restaurants play Christmas songs and offer Christmas fare on the menu, and locals celebrate the festive season as they celebrate everything else in life, with enthusiastic abandon and faultlessly stylish hospitality.Christmas only arrived in the islands along with the Europeans.  Prior to that time, around December, Hawaiians gave their traditional thanks to mother earth for providin
g them with food (Makahiki) so Christmas festivities became an extension of their own celebrations.  In those days the party lasted for around four months, which was quite useful as during the festivities wars were strictly prohibited and islanders minded their p’s and q’s somewhat.  Sort of a friendly Hawaiian version of an ASBO.With the arrival of other nationalities at Christmas, Hawaii began to include guests’ traditional delicacies and treats in the Christmas menu, adding sushi, lumpia, tamales and even coconut pudding to the selection.
At Christmas you might find yourself invited to a lu’au in your neighbour’s backyard, where they might offer imu – a pig roasted in an underground pit – not the sort of thing you would serve on toast one supposes!  Imus continue far into the night, lit by the Hawaiian version of Christmas lights and rocking to the sound of ukuleles and guitars.Sounds great doesn’t it.  And the best thing about Christmas in this part of the world is the clement weather, so the kids can still spend time on the beach, the sand and surf is still on offer and there are still loads of things to do during the day. In Hawaii, Santa arrives in a canoe, barefoot, sun lotion in hand, and with his trousers rolled up. Well why not?

Enchanting Christmas Markets of Fairytale Germany

We arrive in Munich and our guide makes it clear this is Bavaria.  Bavarians favor autonomy from Germany and even have their own language.  I’ve been here many times but looking through sober eyes now, I find it more vibrant, clean and sophisticated.  We spend 2 days with Nancy, an excellent guide who has already emailed me to remain in touch.  I have a mini-group of just 26 so this is like a vacation for me.  It’s a first time abroad for some and I love to learn from them as they notice things with child-like enthusiasm that I don’t.  This is the hi-tech land of engineering.  We pass a 9 story Mercedes dealership with new cars stacked to the shape of an Advent tree.  We also see the BMW factory.  I wish I could work here with 7 weeks vacation per year, 340 different work schedules to choose from, a gym, spa and its many other benefits.  We stop for hot apple strudel and visit the well known sites.  Here is the 100’ Christmas tree with 2500 candles.  Our welcome dinner at Haufbrauhous is a delight with yodeling, alp horns and sausages of everything-wurst.  The group toasts their steins of natural beer made only of barley, water and hops. It’s time to move on to the enchanting storybook villages.  This is a magical time to visit.  No country celebrates Christmas with more passion than Germany.  As we head to the alps, the morning sky looks like a pale bruise.  Soon a blizzard engulfs our coach but we have an experienced driver named Eno who we fell in love with by trips end in 7 days.We arrive at Neuschwanstein and ride by horse and carriage up to the famous castle.  (This is the one Disney fashioned its own after.)  I’ve seen more castles than I can count around the world but this medieval knight’s fortress with gothic spires is spectacular.  Built in 1869, it looks brand spanking new with decorated rooms intact.  The 388 steps inside are well worth the climb.  There’s hardly anyone here whereas summer can draw 5,000 tourists each day.  In winter, this fairytale castle becomes dreamlike surreal.  That’s why I enjoy traveling off season.
Pity poor Mad King Ludwig II who designed this worlds largest, most extravagant, expensive and opulent castle for himself.  It’s a sad story of the 6’ king who lived here only 4 months.  The people loved him as much as the German Tourist Board does today.  His family however, did not.  They sought to declare Ludwig insane and hired a team of psychiatrists to prove such.  Although he was prone to depression and insomnia, no doctor could find him mentally unfit.  After short rule, his body was found in the lake and the family stated it was suicide.  But the body of his psychiatrist was also found so most agree it was murder, particularly since an autopsy was refused.  Later it was determined that Ludwig was gay, so the “fairytale king” was truly a fairy. We stopped in charming Oberammergau, famous for its Passion Plays every 10 years.  The wood houses are painted with fairytales: Hansel & Gretel, Red Riding Hood, etc. We then toured Nuremburg with an astute guide who brought the city to life before our eyes from 15th century to its destruction in WWII.  Some went off to the Toy Museum or Torture Museum while I set out to explore the world’s largest Xmas market. With giant lit trees, double carousals, horses with bells, over 400 stalls of food and crafts, this is a s festive as it gets!  I graze my way through on white chocolate bananas, fruit breads, glazed grapes, dipped pretzels, pink marzipan pigs, licorice angles and all types of roasting sugar coated nuts.  Shaped gingerbreads are omnipresent and the aroma of warm sweet Gluh-wine fragrances the air.   I’m on a sugar high and head for the crafts.  Shopping is a blood sport here through narrow lanes but MasterCard is my armor and I find all my toy treasures.  There are giant nutcrackers representing every occupation, unique mangers and 29 trillion ornaments.  At dusk the illumination begins.  I pause for a dinner of 6 bratwursts, Bavarian cheese and a pyramid of sauerkraut to last me to 2012.
In Rodenthal we toured the Goebel/Hummel Factory.  I anticipated boredom yet became fascinated to learn how precious each piece is.  From 1871 to today, 700 artists create these tiny non-useful figurines.  They are paid per piece and if a mistake is made, it must be broken.  The highest paid artists are the delicate “face painters.”
I met one woman who has spent 12 years just painting eyebrows, another on lips and a man who has worked 10 years blushing cheeks!  The eye strain must be like threading sewing needles for a lifetime and it takes 3 years apprenticeship to graduate to this level.  Initially our guide assumed we were a collectors club when in reality we can barely afford a 2’’ baby Jesus. Later in East Germany we visited Lauenstein Confiserie, a chocolate/praline factory that was so busy with the season, they hardly notice us.  I tasted from the chocolate fountain nearly having a cocoa orgasm and confirm again that America can never produce this product as purely or satisfying as Europe. The best of all towns was Rothenberg, population 2300 where our Hotel Prince was located right inside the fortified walls of Old Town.  Our guided walk here instantly awakened all my 5 senses and made me want to linger for days.  We tend to go over the top each year with our flashy decorations.  Among the half timbered homes here on cobbled streets, it is quieter and softer.  One is taken back to the Middle Ages with the pewter ornaments hand crafted and evergreens lit with candles.  Afterwards, our guide Claudia invites us all into her home.  I go to buy a “snowball” for which this town is renowned.  They are piled high like colored softballs in the windows.  For over 300 years, these pastries were frugally made from scraps of fresh pie dough.  Dipped in chocolate, berries or cinnamon butter, they melt in your mouth.  As the sun shines, I remove my coat to a balmy 50º.  How I wished it would snow. We end our tour in the Student Prince town of Heidelberg with entrance to the famous castle and its 55,000 gallon wooden wine barrel.  That night I reflect on a great trip, my last one for 2005.  I write this journal so my wonderful little group will remember it all.  With pride, I’ll always remember them; on time, patient, no complaints, generous tippers, polite to locals and friendly with each other.  Perfect travelers I wish I could clone.   After hugging Eno goodbye, we exited with so many shopping bags that he now thinks he needs a trailer in tow of his coach.  This December, it was joyous to be transported back in time.  It certainly brought me in touch with my inner elf.  What a gift!

Christmas in Cusco, Peru

The Perfect Punter - Christmas/new Year Special (2015/16

The celebration of Christmas in Cusco begins with the dressing-up of the city with coloured lights and garlands. These can be seen everywhere, from the balconies of the Monumental mountain to the streets around the main square, and donate the city with a warm festive ambiance.
On December 24th, hundreds of artisans coming from Cusco and the surrounding towns lay their blankets on the sidewalks -a custom in traditional Andean fairs- and sell carved Nativity handicrafts.
Held in Cusco's main square, Santuranticuy (which means "saints for sale") is a temporary market whose origins go back to the days of the Spanish Vice-royalty. Today it's one of the largest arts-and-crafts fairs in the country. The central figure of the Christmas fair is the Niño Manuelito, the Andean version of the newborn Jesus. Besides the baby Manuelito, you'll find the other Nativity figures -all with an Andean touch-, as well as saint's images. Much appreciated are the boxed scenes, known as Retablos, whose small figurines can represent almost every aspect of live, secular or sacred, though for the occasion you'll almost only find Nativity scenes.Although the fair started as a Christmas specific market, over the years it expanded to include other goods like antiques, silverware, and ceramic objects brought from Pucará and Quinua.
At night, street vendors sell a traditional hot and sweet rum punch called ponche, to warm up chilly visitors. To facilitate both clients and artisans, the fair has been divided into sectors, each of which aggregates a speciality product. Among these you can find decorative ceramic, wood and bark crafts, miniatures and filigrees, silverware, stone crafts, stone sculptures, paintings from the Escuela Cusqueña, and Niños Manuelitos.

Christmas In Other European Countries

11 Kristen Suzannes Easy Raw Recipe Ebooks - Vegan

In Finland, Christmas Eve is the traditional time to set up the Christmas tree
and it's also traditional to visit the sauna and for families to listen to a
broadcast of the national 'Peace of Christmas' on the radio. Christmas Dinner
generally consists of a main dish of boiled codfish that is snowy and fluffy in
appearance, served with cream sauce and boiled potatoes. Christmas dinner is
rounded out with roast suckling pig or roasted fresh ham and vegetables. Among
peasants, there is a tradition to tie a sheaf of grain, with nuts and seeds, to
a pole that is put in a garden for birds. Many peasants will wait until after
the birds have eaten before having their Christmas Dinner. And Santa Claus is
expected to visit homes in person with his Christmas elves to give out Christmas
gifts. Christmas in France is called Noel, from the phrase 'les bonnes nouvelles,' or
'the good news,' which refers to the gospel. On Christmas Eve, cathedrals and
churches are beautifully lit and filled with the sounds of Christmas carols,
ringing church bells and carillons. The tradition among children is to put their
shoes by the fireplace for Pere Noel or le petit Jesus to fill them with gifts.
In the north of France however, children receive gifts on Dec. 6, St. Nicholas
Day, instead of Christmas. Most French homes will have a Nativity scene or
crèche on display during the season. In Southern France, some people will burn a
log in their home from Christmas Eve until New Years Day, which comes out of a
farming tradition of using the log for good luck in the coming harvest. The
French also make a traditional cake called the buche de Noel, or Christmas Log,
which is shaped like a Yule log and is part of a late supper called le reveillon
held after Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. The main dish for this meal generally
consists of poultry, ham, salads, cake, fruit and wine but varies according to
region. The main course in Burgundy is turkey with chestnuts and in Paris it's
oysters, foie gras and the buche de Noel cake. The wines generally served are
Champagne, Muscadet, Sauterne and Anjou. An annual tradition of puppet shows,
particularly in Paris and Lyons, is popular during Christmas time. In Paris,
it's also popular for big department stores to have grand, animated window
displays.Christmas in Italy is called 'Il Natale,' or 'the birthday.' Christmas season
starts eight days before Christmas, a period called the Novena, and runs for
three weeks. During the Novena, children dress as shepherds and go from house to
house saying Christmas poems, singing and playing pipes. They often receive
money to buy gifts during this activity. The Nativity scene, called the
Presepio, has miniature figures, carved in great detail out of clay or plaster,
of the Holy Family in the stable and is the center of Christmas for families.
Families say prayers and children recite poems around the Presepio. Christmas
Eve dinner, called cenone, is a traditional dish of roasted, baked or fried eel.
In some regions, various types of fish is prepared for this dinner, as well as
pork, sausage in a pig's leg or turkey stuffed with chestnuts. Christmas sweets
are called panettone and traditionally have nuts and almonds. On Christmas Eve,
children set out their shoes for a kind, old woman or ugly witch called La
Befana, who rides on a broomstick down chimneys, to fill them with gifts of toys
or candies. If they were bad, their shoes will be filled with coal. Some
children wait until Jan. 6, the Epiphany, to receive gifts.
Norway is where the tradition of the Yule log started and which gave rise to
log-shaped cakes, cheese and other desserts during the holidays. Norwegians
today often go into the forest to cut their own Christmas trees, which is
secretly decorated on Christmas Eve to surprise children. After the Christmas
tree is revealed, Norwegians engage in 'circling the Christmas tree,' a
tradition in which everyone joins hands forming a ring around the tree. They
then walk around the Christmas tree singing carols. Gifts are distributed after
this ritual is finished.

Air Travel Tips for Holidays

Why Not Fly Free

Traveling by air is usually stressful but when you have to travel during the holidays it usually means taking along family members and that can add extra stress. Reduce air travel stress by planning ahead and using these airline tips for a happy and stress free airplane ride. There are a few things to keep in mind when traveling by air with kids in tow. The first is that airline food is tasteless, plain and unappealing to most adults and certainly kids will find it equally disgusting. You can bring plastic containers or baggies filled with your child's favorite treats and meals such as fruits, veggie sticks, toddler finger foods, cheerios and such that will appeal to their young taste buds and keep them happily munching. Remember to bring along wipes to clean sticky fingers.Unlike a car ride, where you can pull off at rest stops, a plane is a long endless ride for youngsters. To help pass the time you can pack in your carryon baggage some simple toys to amuse them. Pack crayons and coloring books, stuffed animals, dolls and action figures. You can also bring along Music CDs with headphones.

Flight discomforts:Babies will need a pacifier or bottle to suck on during times when the cabin pressure is likely to bother them like during takeoff and touchdown.
If possible schedule the flight during naptimes or bedtime so that your child will be less disturbed by these minor discomforts.
Plan aheadCheck with your airline to see what carry – on baggage is appropriate for youngsters. Ask if it is all right to bring a booster seat so that your child can see out the window (ask for a window seat for your child over five).Arrive at least an hour early for domestic flights and two hours early for international flightsBe flexible when it comes to flights as changing departure days be even so much as one day might give you a cheaper rate or an emptier plane (who likes a crowded flight).
If flying internationally check for passport requirements and vaccination requirements. This Website has useful passport information:travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.htmlSecurity wait times may slow you down so check before you leave home to find out if your flight has any wait times established. You can check wait times at:
waittime.tsa.dhs.gov/index.htmlYou may have better flights using surburban airports than big city airports because they are less congested.Ship packages instead of using baggage to avoid overweight fees and long check-in lines. You can try using Greyhound's PackageXpressshipgreyhound.comYou may also want to check out Virtual Bellhop at:virtualbellhop.comSecurity agents may open wrapped Christmas gifts so do not wrap presents until you get to your destination. If you are bringing food aboard make sure they are in see-through containers, or factory-sealed food.During 2006 Southwest and US Airways had the best ON TIME records so part of keeping the stress level down during the holidays is to book your flight with the right airlines for your destination. Usually expect more holiday delays than any other time of the year because of the increased amount of air travelers.
